The Problem with Bullying
By:Caleb Neal,Andrew Fuentes, and Cameron Little
We all know about the story of the Columbine High School shooting the two shooters were bullied and were starting to take that pain out on others. This shows what the effects of bullying. Bullying is some of the wide spread issues of growing up. Everyone has been bullied or known somebody that hasbeen bullied. Bullying may seem like something not so bad when you are the bully, but it takes some lives. There are three types of bullying, there is cyber bullying, physical bullying and verbal bullying. Each type of bullying hasnegative impacts that can effect them for the rest of their
lives.
Physical bullying is not the most widespread form of bullying, contraryto the popular belief. This form of bullying involves the bully hitting or doing anything that involves physical contact upon the victim. The victim is usually smaller than the bully and does not fight back. This is due to the bullied victim cowaring down and not standing up to themselves. “Its sad” said Steven Lopez class of 2014, a bystander of witnessing bullying. “The victim does not even bother the bully and still gets beaten up for no reason.” Physi-cal bullying is portrayed in a comedic on television and other media, like in the show Billy and Mandy how the bully named Sperg harrasses and beats Billy and the other
school children.
Cyber bullying is another form of bullying that takes place over the internet. As many people have already heard there was the story of Jessica Laney, 16 years old, who threw herself in front of a bus because she was being buliied over the internet. “Even after that incedent, people still underestimate it” Steven said. “The bully sees how it takes other people’s lives in other places, and yet they still bully.” MAny people that cber bul-lying isn’t as much as a threat because it’s over the internet and it doesn’t involve both the offender and victim confronting each other.
Lastly we have the most common from of bulling others: verbal bulling. We all know the image of the poplular girls in the chearleading team making fun of the girl with the big glases and brases where they all gang up on that girl for the way she looks and acts, like in the movie “Mean Girls.” It is strongly beleived verbal bulling is the worst bulling out of the three. Vebral bulling has caused people to have low self esteem, low con-fidence, and victims cutting themselves. “ People need to realize that words hurt more than fists.” Steven said. “ We need to stop bulling any way we can, and to do so, we have to get the message out to everybody as soon as we can!” says Jessica Morales, memeber of Save the Drama club.
Being bullied is a very traumatic experience that affects them badly. It’s something no one wants to go through in any time of
their life.

Manti Te’o: Unbelievable Hoax
By: Paloma Hinojosa
Manti Te’o: victim or culprit? Questions have been continuing to surge in the past couple of weeks since the Notre Dame line-backer was caught in a “catfish” scandal involving his deceased girlfriend, Lennay Kekua. The catch? His girlfriend never existed.
Te’o’s story appeared to be an inspirational one told to the world. He met Kekua in 2009 via the Internet and they began an online relationship, and although they never met in person, they fell deeply in love. The two would contact one another via Twitter or email, and on some occasions, even by telephone. The couple lasted into the year 2012, however, during Te’o’s football season, Kekua got into a car accident and wound up being hospitalized. In September she was diagnosed with leukemia, and on the same day Te’o’s beloved grandmother died, so did she.
Of course, Manti was devastated, and he shared this loss with not only his teammates, but the media as well. His story became popular amongst ESPN and college football fans as he continued to play with all his might; he played the game of his life at the Championship Game on January 7th. Just days later the hoax was exposed by Deadspin.
Lennay Kekua turned out to be a fictional character created by a Palmdale man, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, who attended Paraclete High School with a girl he used as the face for Kekua. All three have spoken out in interviews about the hoax; the face of Kekua oblivious, Te’o possibly acting oblivious, and Tuiasosopo telling all.
Although Te’o’s story was a heart-felt one to tell, it had its flaws. After the scandal broke out, Te’o claimed that he never met Kekua in face-to-face. However, an article in The South Bend Tribune described the initial meeting between the two in California in 2009, without attributing who had told the newspaper about the details of that meeting: “Lennay Kekua was a Stanford student and Cardinal football fan when the two exchanged glances, handshakes and phone numbers that fateful weekend three seasons ago,” the article stated.
Also, Kekua was said to have been in a car accident, but Te’o never visited her. Kekua was diagnosed with leukemia during her recovery, but Te’o never visited her. Kekua suddenly passed away from her cancerous disease and still, Te’o didn’t visit her grave nor attend her funeral. How could a man call a woman his “soul mate” and not ever see her face once? Even following her death?
It could be that Te’o simply made up this sympathetic story because the Heisman Trophy was in mind. He appeared as a stand-out player going through battles in his life and on the field. His “struggles” helped him finish second in the Heisman Trophy balloting.
According to Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, the hoax was all set by him. He used his former classmate’s photos to virtually deceive Te’o, which obviously worked well. Tuiasosopo was the mastermind behind the identity of Lennay Kekua, but for what purpose? And why Te’o?
The reason is not entirely certain, but on an interview with Dr. Phil, Tuiasosopo revealed that he “fell deeply, romantically in love” with Te’o, and that he was “lost” and “confused” in regards to his sexuality.
Could Tuiasosopo be stating the truth or be in on a hoax to benefit Te’o’s career? Either Te’o is horrible at relationships, or this scandal is a lie to boost his success.
